Shine Text Effect Tutorial
The double underlined links (or in-line text advertising) can be very annoying while reading an article or tutorial but it’s a great additional revenue stream for my site. People whom register an account and login won’t be bothered with these ads.
Intro:
Make a nice and simple text effect by using only a shine with a subtle movement so it has a bevel without using the blending options. This effect works best on a light background.
Step 1:
Make a new file (300x100 px) and type your text, make the text the color you prefer, but remember NOT to choose a light color because of the white shine that comes over it. I used #050635 as base color.
Make a new layer (Ctrl + shift + N) and name it shine.
Make a selection around the text (ctrl + click on the text layer), take the gradient tool
,
hit D on your keyboard followed by X, then select the foreground to background gradiant.

and with the selection and shine layer active and selected make a gradiant from top to bottom of the selection.
You should now have something like this:
Step 2:
Now comes the easy but the most important part! Make sure you got the shine layer still selected, then select the move tool ![]()
and move the shine layer 1 pixel to the left and 1 pixel to the top using the arrows on your keyboard, as you can see this makes a very nice 3d look.
Step 3:
You can lower the opacity of the shine layer a bit to your likings, it also depends on which color you using, how light or how dark it is.

And there it is a very simple but nice text effect using only a shine, you can add a reflection, I assume you already know because there are alot of tutorials about it. If you want me to make tutorial about it just ask in this thread.
