Intro:
On a Dutch electronic site I saw a text effect + background that cought my eye and thought it was a good idea to re-create it for a tutorial, so I did.. Just check it out in full size, it's a pretty cool effect you could use for your site or in some magazine if you have the possibility.
Here's the finished effect of this tutorial:
Step 1:
Start off with a black canvas, my dimensions are 487px width by 305px height but you can use other dimensions that seem applicable to your project.
Step 2:
First we're going to take care of the background because this is just not a normal text effect tutorial, it's definitely more then that. Get your brush-tool out of the tool arsenal and select a BIG soft brush (170px or something), it depends on how big your entire canvas is but if you have the same dimensions as me a 170px soft brush will do nicely. Make a new layer called Blob and set your foreground color to #d50000, now brush a nice blob in the middle there, below is what I've got.
Step 3:
Now with a black foreground, brush (with the same brush size, or maybe a tad smaller) on a new layer around the red blob, this will make some shadow near the edges to blend the red more into the black background.
Step 4:
With a smaller soft white brush and on a new layer, brush some dots near the middle. I've used 2 dots, 1 big above a smaller one. Set the layer's blend mode to Overlay.
