Intro:

Create a sweet looking indent orb with burned shadow edges and a Crab nebula for the texture.

Step 1:

Make a new file with dimensions 300x300px and make a selection for your orb base. Make it the size you want or look in the below preview how big mine is. Change your foreground color to: #463600, make a new layer called "Orb base", and fill the selection with the paintbucket tool Indent shadow orb with the new layer selected obviously.

Add these blending options:

Step 2:
Now that we have the base it's time to create some brushing to make the orb look more 3d-ish. Make a new layer called "Brush 1", take the brush tool Indent shadow orb and take a soft brush 125px. Tip: Use the brackets [ and ] to decrease and increase the brush size. Set brush mode on soft light.

Ctrl+Click the Orb base layer to make a selection of it. We need this selection so the brush doesn't go outside the orb layer, much quicker work way to do it like this then deleting afterwards.
Now make a brush somewhat similar to mine, but don't try to make it exactly like mine, just do what you think would look good.

Set the layer mode to Overlay in the layers palette

Step 3:
Now make a new layer called "Brush 2", make sure you still have your selection of the orb base layer active, if not select it again. First create with the same brush settings a brush stroke on the top left side of the orb as seen below.

Then decrease the brushsize to 80px with the [ bracket and make a dot inside the first brush (Brush 1).

Set the layer mode to Overlay, opacity to 39%.

Step 4:
Make a new layer again, name this layer "Gradient shine". Take the gradient tool Indent shadow orb, set the foreground to white (#FFFFFF), and take the foreground to transparent gradient.

When that's all set you have to make a selection of the orb base layer again, then go Select > Modify > Contract, and fill in a value of 2px, hit OK. Then Make a gradient from the top of th selection to 3/4 of the selection.
