Step 5:
Now take a big soft brush, I have a brushsize of 250px. Make a new layer called "Brush 3". And make a brush somewhat similar to mine. I've deleted the edges a bit with a soft eraser brush, so it has some shadow on the edges.

Step 6:
Take a 100px brush and set the brush mode on Color burn. Make a new layer called "Shadow" and set this layer mode to overlay. Make a selection of the orb base layer and burn away on the edges, doesn't need that much, keep it subtle!

Step 7:
Create a round selection with the eliptical marquee tool Indent shadow orb like below

Take the gradient tool again and leave the settings as before with a white foreground color. Create a new layer named shine and create a gradient from top to 3/4 of the selection. Set the layer mode to Overlay and the opacity to 16%. Create another shine but then smaller, and use the same settings as the bigger shine.

Step 8:
You could leave the orb like this but I like some texture in my big orbs so what I did is I went to wikipedia and downloaded a nebula image and used that on my orb, download the image of the crab nebula I used. Open up the nebula image in photoshop and drag it onto the orb window with the move tool Indent shadow orb. Check if you like the texture like this on your orb, and make sure the texture covers the whole orb. Then it's time to delete the outer edges of the texture. Make a selection of the base layer Hit ctrl+Shift+I to make the selection inverse and hit delete on your keyboard.

That would leave you with this:

Well that ain't good is it Happy , I think you know what you have to do now. If not Change the layer mode to Overlay and opacity to 10%

Step 9:
That looks like a pretty decent orb already but it wouldn't be a Celoxdesign tutorial if we didn't tweak the colors Happy I allways like to tweak the colors with color balance using an adjustment layer. So in the layers palette hit the "Create new adjustment layer" icon

and choose Color balance, use the below values:

*From left to right
Shadows: -4, -11, +22
Midtones: +3, -7, +8
Highlights: +3, +2, -49

This is my end result doing these excact above steps! Hope you enjoyed this free photoshop tutorial as much as I enjoyed writing it.
