Curving cut out with the pentool Tutorial
The double underlined links (or in-line text advertising) can be very annoying while reading an article or tutorial but it’s a great additional revenue stream for my site. People whom register an account and login won’t be bothered with these ads.
Intro:
Make a nice curving cutout with a sunset image, very well explained tutorial so even beginners understand.
Step 1:
Open up the image, unlock it by doubleclicking the layer in the layers window, then duplicate the layer (right click > duplicate layer...).
Set the mode of the duplicated layer to soft light to give the image nicer colours.
Step 2:
Then make a selection like below with the rectangular marquee tool

Press Ctrl+alt+N to create a new layer, a window pops up, name this layer Shine and fill it with white. Right click in the selection > Fill > choose color white.
Or you can do it another way like, setting the foreground to white (press D to reset colors, X to switch colors, then pres alt+backspace and voila a white layer.)
Step 3:
Now comes the part where we make the curve with the pentool.
Get the
Click once on the left of the shine layer.
Then click AND HOLD the mouse button just before the middle and drag it to the bottom right, NOT the whole way but just out of the white shine layer.
If you don't know what to do just check the image below.

Now for the second curve just click once on the right so you have a nice flowing curve, you can allways go back one step if you don't like it with Ctr+alt+Z.
You should now have something like this:
Step 4:
Now the pentool is not done yet, because we have to blind the whole white part below the nice curve we see in a moment.
Just click on the right bottom of the project and then the same in the left bottom corner.
You can allways resize the window and click outwards to make sure you select the whole white part at the sides.

Then hold Ctrl and click "Shape 1" in the layers window, this will make a selection of the pentool shape we just made.
You can hide the "Shape 1" now by clicking the eye icon in front.
Select the Shine layer, just selecting with leftmouse click not making a selection of it! Because we need the selection of the "shape 1".
Now press delete on your keyboard, you should have something like this.
