Step 5:
Make a selection of the top text layer by holding the CTRL key and Left-clicking the thumbnail of the text layer. When you have your selection make a new layer with CTRL+SHIFT+N, name this layer brush. Set the foreground to black. Then take out the brush tool
, change the brush to a soft 150px brush and the brush opacity to 60%. Then make a single stroke at the bottom of your selection on the newly created layer.

Then change the layer blend mode of the brush layer to Overlay and the opacity to 74%.
Step 6:
Again make a new layer but now called Gradient. Make a selection of the Top text layer. Select the gradient tool
and pick the foreground to transparent gradient.

Make a gradient from the top of the selection to 3/4 of the selection like so.

Obviously this gradient is so not done, we're going to make some modifications now. Make a selection of the top text layer again if you deselected the selection. Then go to Select > Modify > Contract and use a 2px contract, press OK. Then Hit CTRL+SHIFT+I to make the selection inverse. Make sure you have the gradient layer select, then press delete on your keyboard.

Make a selection like shown below with the eliptical marquee tool

And press delete on your keyboard to make a nice curve in the gradient.
Step 7:
Now we're almost finished, We'll have to add some adjustment layers which will make this baby awesome! Hit the new Adjustment layer icon in the layers palette
![]()
and choose Levels. Then add the following values from left to right in the input levels, 4, 1.14, 227. Change the opacity of the Levels layer to 63%.
Step 8:
Make a new adjustment layer but now choose Color balance, and use these values from left to right.
SHADOWS: 0, -15, +8
MIDTONES: -74, -21, +7
HIGHLIGHTS: 0, 0, 0
Change the Layer blend mode to Screen and the opacity to 75%.
Step 9:
Add another adjustment layer but choose Curves and add a somewhat similar curve as me below.

Change the Layer blend mode to Soft light.

And that leaves us with the final result of this sweet 3D text effect photoshop tutorial! Hope you enjoyed reading this tutorial, good luck!
