How to use Feedburner's My-Brand Pro with Godaddy

Since Google took over Feedburner.com all the PRO functions became free of charge, this is a great thing and of course should be known by everyone using or not using Feedburner. In this little blog tutorial I'm going to explain how to use the MyBrand PRO function with a Godaddy domain, I'm sure it's about the same with another domain registrar (you just have to find your "Total DNS records" in your control panel). I've just enabled this feature minutes ago and it's working greatly, check out my RSS feeds and don't forget to subscribe.

• Once logged in to your Godaddy account under "My products" click "Domains".
• Click the domain-name you want to use the MyBrand feature for (note: you can multiple domains in MyBrand PRO).
• Under "Total DNS" click "Total DNS Control and MX Records".
• Now click on the "Add new CNAME Record" button.
• In the "Enter an Alias Name" field fill in your preferred alias, I've used feeds
• In the "Points To Host Name" field fill in feeds.feedburner.com
• Leave the TTL (Time To Live) setting on 1 hour as it'll do nicely for this DNS record.
• Hit OK. Though, I should mention it can take upto 24 hours for your new CNAME record to work (it only took 10 minutes max at my account).

Here's a little explanation of what TTL is exactly, I've taken it from the ever so useful wikipedia. Read the full wikipedia article about TTL

"Time to live of DNS records:
TTLs also occur in the Domain Name System (DNS), where they are set by an authoritative nameserver for a particular resource record. When a caching (recursive) nameserver queries the authoritative nameserver for a resource record, it will cache that record for the time (in seconds) specified by the TTL. If a stub resolver queries the caching nameserver for the same record before the TTL has expired, the caching server will simply reply with the already cached resource record rather than retrieve it from the authoritative nameserver again. Nameservers may also have a TTL set for NXDOMAIN (acknowledgment that a domain does not exist); but they are generally short in duration (3 hours at most)."

Now let's get on with part 2 of this tutorial. We got our work done for the DNS record, the only thing we have to do now is tell feedburner we've created a CNAME for MyBrand. So getting yourself logged into your feedburner account is a good start Happy

• Click on "My account", under Services click MyBrand PRO.
• Skip step 1 and 2 on the MyBrand page as we already did those steps for your Godaddy account. Fill in your new feeds URL into the input field in step 3, my URL is feeds.celoxdesign.net.
• Activate, save the MyBrand service and enjoy your new Feedburner's feed addresses.

Back on track again with major update

Hi again,

Starting from this year I didn't update the site a lot because I had different things on my mind besides managing my site. One of the things that kept me busy mostly is a very special girl Wink, we did some amazing things together and shared a lot of wisdom. Why that's great stuff, in a way it was keeping me from exploring the designing communities and improving my design skills, and losing to improve yourself in what you love is like losing a part of your soul.
I got good news (if you care that is) as I try to update the site as regularly as possible, I can tell you that new photoshop tutorials are coming. As I work during the day at a "normal" company so most of the time I put in to update the site will be done in the evening hours and weekends. Of course if you want to help out with the site that's greatly appreciated, you can contact me via the contact form

Now let's talk about the new update celoxdesign has revived from. The old design was just plain stupid (mostly the structure of the menus) and needed to go fast, although it ran on the site for quite some time Happy. The new design has a very easily navigatable menu-bar, which makes it possible to navigate to all the important pages without having to scroll down as in the old design with some of the menus.
One other big change you might notice is that the content is on the left instead of being sided by 2 menus (a 3 column page layout), this is more friendly for the reading eye as someone would most likely read from the left to right and would have his eyes right on the content they were looking. Also, finally we have RSS Feeds which are being polished and monitored by feedburner.
CD will have its own advertising system soon, the checkout page is still under construction so you won't be able to buy advertising through this system quite yet (soon though!). You'll be able to buy the following ad spots: the 728x90 banners in the header and footer, one of the 300x250 in the side-menu. And you can buy a sponsored link to boost your search engine ranking. Of course with all the ads you'll get an decent>significant increase in visitors to your site. You can buy all the spots monthly/yearly and can select the quantity on the checkout page so you can select multiple months or years.

One last thing I need to mention is that we're going to have a contest on the site very soon. Gary from how.todesignyour.com was a good sport by providing 3 FREE membership accounts for how.todesignyour.com, the site contains very useful Photoshop video tutorials that will most definitely improve your PS skills. I don't know yet what kind of contest is going to be held but I'll be launching it soon so I better think of something Happy

Publish your tutorials on Celoxdesign

There's now a new function in the tutorials section, you can now have your own tutorials published. Of course it wouldn't be fair if you didn't get something in return for your tutorials, so that's why I'll place a real back-link to your site at the end of the tutorial. This is a great way to gain quality back-links to your tutorial site from a 100% related site, this will most definitely boost your site up in the search results. Celoxdesign has 10000+ unique visitors each week so the link will probably send you a lot of traffic too. Below is proof of the 10000+ unique visits, keep in mind though that we're now in week 37.

Tracking is done by xtremetracking.com and is accurate.
Website weekly stats

So get your own tutorials published on a related website for free and get a real back-link. If the tutorial is of very high quality I might even pay you for it via Paypal, with of course adding the back-link to your site too.

Sleek Menu bar tutorial

It's been a while since I've updated the Photoshop tutorials section, it was REALLY necessary to come with a new tutorial. Had quite a list in my to-do list of tutorials and saw a note that I never did a a neat menu bar tutorial. I think the outcome of the tutorial is pretty awesome and hope you feel the same way, if not, whatever Happy.

Rotate your Google Adsense codes

I know you can rotate different color schemes in 1 Google adsense code, but I was wondering if it was legal to rotate the Google Adsense codes on your site. For example I now rotate 6 different Adsense codes with the same colors, so only the sizes are differently. Now before I implemented this PHP script I mailed the Google Adsense support team about this matter and they wrote the following.

Hi Jeroen,

We do permit publishers to rotate the AdSense script.

Please keep in mind that a maximum of three regular ad units and one link unit may be placed on one webpage. In addition, please be aware that every publisher is responsible for the content of a website on which their ad code is placed. If a website is found in violation of our program policies, we will notify any publisher(s) whose ad code is on the website, and ask you to remove the Google code from that page.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Sean
The Google AdSense Team

That should clear it all up for everyone that has question marks on this matter (like I had).
